Taze was recently awarded the prestigious William D. He was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Law Foundation and was a past president of the Huntsville Bar Association and Madison County Volunteer Lawyer Program. Taze was president of the Board of Lawyer Services in Alabama, providing free legal aid to low-income families. In 2021 he was recognized with the Outstanding Service Award from the State Bar’s Solo and Small Firm section. In 2019, Taze received the State Volunteer of the Year Award from the Volunteer Lawyers Program in Alabama. He chaired several committees and acted as Chair for the State Bar’s Solo and Small Firms Section. He was a member of the Board of Bar Commissioners where he served as vice-president. He is the immediate past president the Alabama State Bar Association. Taze dedicated his life to his family, his profession and helping others. He received a BA in History from Dartmouth College and earned his Juris Doctorate Degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. and Eton College in Windsor, United Kingdom. He was also preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Tazewell Taylor Shepard and Martha Webb Shepard of Mobile, Alabama. He also spent many happy summers at his grandparents’ Huntsville home. Having a family with deep political roots, Taze spent his younger years in Washington, DC with his maternal grandparents, Senator John J. and Julianne Sparkman Shepard, both preceding him in death. Taze was born in Washington, DC to Admiral Tazewell Taylor Shepard, Jr. Taze Shepard passed away at his home on October 10, 2022, surrounded by his loving family.
